Northern Benchtops

With over  50 years combined experience in the joinery/stonemasonary trade, we are Northland’s first choice for laminate and engineered stone, along with natural stone benchtops.

setting Northland’s benchtop benchmark

In 2017, Northern Benchtops entered the Westpac Northland Business Excellence Awards and was the only benchtop manufacturer to come away as finalists in the Henderson Reeves Excellence in Business Award for Small Businesses, as well as the Northland Regional Council Sustainable Business Award, and the ACC Workplace Safety Award.

helping create homes throughout Northland

Northern Benchtops proudly produced bespoke granite and engineered stone benchtops for Whangarei’s centrally-located One Riverside Apartments, and crafted the Neolith ‘Nero Satin’ porcelain veneers of 2019 Grand Designs Waipu’s “lavishly appointed outdoor kitchen”* and fireplace. actively supporting the community

At Northern Benchtops we enjoy participating in local sporting fundraising events, including the annual Ray White Hatea Loop Challenge. We are the proud sponsors of Mangakahia Rugby Club where I used to play, and where our ten-year old son and athlete, Chase, is now making memories of his own. The ‘Benchtop Battlers’ have also joined the Relay for Life Northland 2020 campaign to raise funds for Cancer Society New Zealand.

Northern Benchtops caring for our earth

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact: in 2017 we were runners up for the Northland Regional Council Sustainable Business Award, a notably rare achievement for a manufacturer. We promote the sale off-cuts to reduce landfill and take smaller steps to reduce plastic waste in our operations, such as by supplying our staff with a coffee machine and reusable cups, and sourcing green product alternatives.

Northern Benchtops spreading the love

We are a small family business with a big heart and believe in supporting local: that means our clients, our communities and Northland’s special culture. We are deeply loyal to our clients and strive to provide them with a service we would be happy to receive. We are always willing to go above and beyond to show them how much they mean to us, such as by including care packages with each installation to thank our clients for their custom. Within these care packages are beautiful hand-made artisan goodies made right here in Northland because we believe that when locals support locals, all of Northland prospers, and that’s a culture we’re dedicated to nurturing.

Our Story

Kia Ora, I’m Tommy Adams, owner and manager of Northern Benchtops. A born and bred Northlander, I began working in the benchtop industry at the age of 16, becoming a fully qualified joiner and later, a foreman for a laminate benchtop manufacturer. I founded Northern Benchtops in 2011, the same week my lovely wife and business partner Steph gave birth to our youngest daughter, Isobella, at just 25 weeks.

As our family has grown and flourished, so too has our business. Since those early days we have established a stone factory beside our original laminate factory – both of which adjoin our stunning showroom – and we have expanded our range from laminate only to include engineered stone, natural stone and, most recently, porcelain (sintered stone). We have cultivated strong partnerships with global leading brands to bring you Northland’s most extensive range of benchtop options available in a broad palette of unique finishes. By selling off-cuts we not only reduce landfill but give our clients quality and affordable surfaces for their bathroom and laundry benchtops and vanities. Additionally, we craft bespoke hearths and outdoor kitchen and BBQ surfaces from granite and porcelain. To complete your kitchen, laundry or bathroom spaces, we also source and supply designer Acero sinks.

Our Team

The Northern Benchtops team share a combined 50 years’ industry experience in benchtops and comprehensive product knowledge, and include three skilled stonemasons and three laminate joiners. With our 16-year-old son, Richard, joining the benchtop industry as our part-time cleaner, our family and our business has come full circle.

I work with the crew in the laminate shed, I have 9 years joinery experience. When I am not at work you will find me spending time with my kids or working on my cars.

I started my role at northern benchtops working as a factory hand in both our lam shed and our stone shed. I have since moved into a role in admin/sales which I absolutely love. The knowledge I gained from working on the factory floor has been a great advantage moving into my role in sales as I am able to point our customers towards the right products to suit their needs.

Greg has been with Northern Benchtops for the past two and a half years. He has a wealth of experience spanning 20+ years. Greg has worked throughout New Zealand and Queensland, Australia. He started in headstones then branched into benchtops.

Hi my name is jack, I have worked at Northern Benchtops for 6 years, I started in the laminate shed and after 3 years I moved to stone.

Being foreman at Northern Benchtops, I am in charge of the laminate shed as well as overseeing operations in the stone shed and installing team. With 10 years' experience in the joinery industry, I enjoy challenging and complex jobs and achieving a high-quality finish. Outside of work you'll find me at the park with my dog, at the gym or spending my weekends working on my new house, which is currently in construction with Homeworld.

I have been head-installer at Northern Benchtops for the past 6 years. I was previously residing in Auckland where I gained a wealth of skill and knowledge in several different cabinet making industries including bathrooms, kitchens/wardrobes and shopfitting. I apply my 20 years' worth of technical skills to ensure every install is to the highest quality standard.
